Bring & Brag September 2023 Entries and Winners

A sort of “Steel(ers) Fever” gripped Division Two last month, as two Mini Metals HO scale models of work trucks representing that most renowned industrial concern that dominated the economy and culture of Division Two were the only entrants in the Bring’n’Brag contest (category “Vehicles”). Both of these models were weathered and grimed up to reflect their use in and around the US Steel mills that still cast a long shadow over the region.

1st Place: White tractor and trailer by Rick Montgomery

1st Place: White tractor and trailer by Rick Montgomery

1st Place went to Rick Montgomery for his US Steel White tractor with a 32’ flatbed trailer unloading a steel coil. This model was a Mini Metals HO scale set that he weathered with Monroe ash grey powder and assorted weathering paint markers. Rick added the USS coil, tie down chains and hooks, and he detailed the wheels and marker lights.

2nd Place: 1960 Ford F800 stake body truck by Grier Kuehn

2nd Place: 1960 Ford F800 stake body truck by Grier Kuehn

2nd Place went to Grier Kuehn for his HO scale 1960 Ford F800 stake body truck. He was modeling a stake body truck for the US Steel mill on his layout... a truck that rarely, if ever, left the mill. Grier started with a basic Mini Metals 1960 Ford F800. He made the USS logos on his PC. He then heavily weathered it with airbrushed washes, chalks and powders to depict a hard-working truck that is covered with red mill dirt and grime.
