The Category for the February meeting was Motive Power: Diesel, Steam, Electric, Traction. We had 7 entries for judging. The winners were as follows:
1st place went to Grier Kuehn for his entry of two KATO HO scale GP 35s which were decorated for his proto-freelanced PennWestern Railroad. The models were custom painted, had added details, and were weathered.

2nd place went to Arley Mitchell for his entry of two KATO HO scale N&W GP 35s. They were painted to represent the two P&WV GP 35s that were delivered after the N&W merger. The models were painted with Polly S Engine Black, LED Lights were installed along with ALCO trucks and DCC along with slight weathering.

3rd place went to Rick Montgomery for his O scale entry of a NS ES44AC heritage Contrail Unit. It was weathered with the following powders: Ash Gray, Dark Rust (Monroe Powder); Paints were Grimy Black (Tru Color), Burnt Umber (Plaid), and Brown Oxide (Plaid). It was then dull-coated with Krylon Matte finish.

Frank Benders brought an Athearn “blue box” HO scale model of an EMD F7 in Southern Pacific’s “Black Widow” livery.

Mark Vinski brought this work-in-progress, a GP9 locomotive shell on which he chopped the nose to match the Western Maryland prototype, which is pictured on the cover of the WM Historical Society’s 2023 calendar.
